I’ve had this vintage wig for a while now, but for the life of me I couldn’t figure out how to style it. Until tonight. Well, I got half of it right anyway. The side facing away from the camera isn’t quite as pretty and I’ll need to fix it up…but it has made me contemplate the idea of investing in a few wigs so I’m not as tempted to tint my hair. I quite like the idea of being able to change it up at will without damaging my mane any more than necessary. Plus, when I take my wig off, I look like Maggie Tabaret and it makes me laugh. Bonus.

Mrs Kravitz

Prue channeling Mrs Kravitz 04/01/12

This particular wiggy wig is a bit Mrs Kravitz from Bewitched, so I’m going to check out what’s on offer on Ebay. I want a blonde, a red and a black, that way all my bases are covered.
PS. Because I left my DSLR battery charger at a friends place, this photo of me taken today by a mate will be substituting for todays portrait of the day.

Black and White Bombshell 03/01/12

I’m trying to figure out whether I have the time to head up to the Kustom Nats at Phillip Island this weekend. I probably should have planned it better, but I might go up on the Sunday given I’m out of time to book accommodation for Saturday night.  Road trip anyone?

Lady in Pink 02/01/12

I don’t love the intense heat of Summer, nor do I enjoy the intermittent black outs that come with grid overloads, but I I do enjoy the sense of freedom that comes with the sunny days. On days like this, when everyone is overheating, it’s as though the normal rules of fashion cease to exist, and we’re each granted a free pass to wear whatever makes us feel our most comfortable. Bare feet are suddenly embraced, instead of frowned upon. Make up is minimal. Lycra rules.  People seem friendlier and more relaxed. Strangers strike up conversations offering commentary on the weather. It’s just one of my favourite times of the year, and I still have a whole week by the beach to enjoy the season at its peak.
My photo today is of a beautiful older woman who’s cheeks were flushed with the same colour pink as her bathers. When I scanned the scene, she was the first person that stood out to me…so bright and happy looking, almost radiant. I wonder if this is one of her favourite times of year too?

Sweeties On The Beach 01/01/12

I walked down to the beach yesterday, expecting to just stroll around and take photos as per my 2012 resolution, when I bumped into a girlfriend I hadn’t seen since High School. She invited me back to her tent on the sand, where we sat chatting while her two beautiful girls splashed around in the water. It was such a great, unexpected afternoons treat to just sit in the sunshine and gab about both old times, and new.
Thanks J for our afternoon together. Looking forward to catching up again some time soon!

It’s New Years Eve and I’m sitting on the couch , fiddling with my camera and watching reruns of Grey’s Anatomy. The sun is shining, the rat pack are laying on the polished floorboards making the most of the cool breeze that’s flowing through, and I have sand stuck to my bare feet. Or I did. The dog has since moved up on to the couch beside me and removed any traces of the beach I brought home with me. I’ll bring him back another feed of sand after I’ve taken some photos of the fireworks display over the bay at midnight.

My resolution this year is simple. I’m resolving to take a portrait a day for the next 365 days. It gives me a chance to demonstrate my commitment to learning more about photography, and as an added bonus, it pushes me to act in a less misanthropic manner than I might otherwise be accused of. A lone wolf, toting a Nikon, attempting to interact with the pack.

In the few hours that passed between writing the first paragraph, and the second, I walked down to the beach to give my resolution a test run. I hope what transpired is an indication of promising things to come.

This is Spike. He was out cruising about on his awesome bike in the warm afternoon sun. I was charmed by Spike’s upbeat and positive energy.  You know how some people just ooze positive energy? Well, that’s a good way of describing this old school punk rocker.

Spike 31/12/2011

It’s just after 11pm now and I’m editing photos and watching Law and Order SVU. What are you doing with your New Years Eve?
